It’s estimated that about 31.6 million people in the United States populationare affected by eczema, so if you’ve recently been diagnosed with mild to severe eczema, you’re certainly not alone. If you haven’t received an official diagnosis but have been suffering from rough and inflamed patches of skin, then you’ll want to start by seeing a dermatologist. From there, it’s important that you follow the right steps to treat and control your eczema.

Avoid Hot Showers

Fortunately, there are plenty of options out there when it comes to treatment for eczema. For mild cases, one of the best things you can do to protect yourself from an outbreak is to avoid hot showers. Not only can hot water irritate any existing eczema sores, but it can provide the ideal conditions for new ones to form by drying out the skin.

Furthermore, when you’re bathing, always be careful to use a gentle, mild soap that’s not too harsh on your skin.

Use the Right Moisturizers

There are many moisturizers on the market made specifically for people with eczema. The TrueLipids line of moisturizing creams and lotions is 100% vegan and hypoallergenic, making it safe for all skin types. It’s important to adhere to a strict regimen. This means speaking to your dermatologist about what the best moisturizing routine for you is and sticking with it every day. This is especially important for successful eczema face treatment, which may require additional steps for treatment and prevention.

Reduce Stress

High stress levels have also been linked to the development of eczema in patients. Therefore, if you’re experiencing a lot of stress in your life, make an effort to reduce that stress in a way that’s healthy.

Some effective ways to do so include:

  • taking up meditation or yoga
  • going or a run or walk
  • setting aside more time for self-care
  • leaving a stressful job or relationship

The Bottom Line

Depending on the severity of your eczema and your dermatologist’s recommendations, you’ll want to try some or all of the above treatment options to control your eczema. This way, you can reduce irritation and live a healthier, happier life while worrying less about your skin.
