Best Makeup Brushes for Sensitive Skin

By Cheryl Lee

Fighting acne as a teenager is one of the hardest battles to win. It makes it doubly worse when you see your friends wear all this great makeup that you can’t because it will cause your skin to flare up. For adults, it’s a challenge too, as the struggle to look professional and pleasing is at an even greater demand in the business world. Whether it’s dry, flaky skin or any other skin problems, finding a solution is your goal. There are steps and measures you can take, one of which is choosing the best makeup brush for your sensitive skin.

When choosing the best makeup brush for your sensitive skin, test a few in the store before you make a selection. Check out natural bristled brushes first as they tend to be the softest. Squirrel fur is extremely soft and won’t aggravate your skin. Sable is another type which is very soft and won’t damage your skin when used. The challenge with some brushes is that they harden over time. If you find a brush to feel at all prickly, it will only get worse with time. The drawback to using natural brushes is that they tend to shed.

If you are against using any animal products, there are synthetic brushes but they can have chemicals in them that can dry out your skin. Look for a high quality, hypoallergenic brush and test the softness level. There are man-made brushes that work just as well as natural ones and not always too expensive. Find a trusted brand for the synthetic fiber brushes such as Jane Iredale and Lumiere. Once you find one that suits your needs, stick with it as there is no need to change your brand for brushes.

The softest bristles can sometimes be too much for very sensitive skin in which case sponges may work best. They are inexpensive and don’t cause skin to flake or flare up. It is essential to wash them more frequently as they absorb everything around them. A daily wash is recommended, whereas with a good brush you can do it once a week or every two weeks.

Even with these great options, skin is sensitive to so many factors and should you have a problem with acne, psoriasis, eczema or any other skin issue, getting a top notch face cleaning product line is critical. Incorporate any of the kits at Cheryl Lee MD into your skin care routine in combination with purchasing good brushes that suit your skin’s needs and you will have a glowing visage!
